That’s just an excessive and disgusting embellishment. If you want to quantify things, you exaggerated your time commitment by 53% (I rounded down by the way) in that one activity alone.

EDIT: You edited your hours after my post. In any event, 10 hours from 3 hours is still a gross exaggeration (233% more than your actual commitment to be precise).

Original post from polsci: “well, on the common app. when it asks about hours, I pretty much rounded everything up. in one place instead of 13 I put 20. and instead of 21 I put 25.”

Obviously, you lied again somewhere along the way… No way those changed numbers are typos.

well, thats the whole point I was tryin to make jcy2009. “nobody will care” , so why does everyone get mad at me? People with 800s and many club presidencies get rejected. Why would they make big deal out of claim of being the president. That’s why I think its not a big deal and you just agreed with me.

Sorry, those numbers were from a different activity and application. I confused the two. Will you forgive me CrookedI? Its not gonna make a big difference anyway. Its still a huge inflation like other numbers that I changed them to.

people do exaggerate all the time when they fill out college applications, but you are exaggerating, and pretending that you are a first generation student, AND forging your letters of recommendation?

you know what? I highly doubt you’ll even get into Columbia or any of the elite schools. You are just like the students that are frowned upon who join clubs and run for positions for the titles and don’t do anything to contribute. in fact, your hours are so low in the first place that you neede to round them up by 200% to get it to where another legitimate student would be. you justify your actions by saying that your environment tells you to do so just because others lie around you. two wrongs dont make a right. you learned that in preschool.

i dare you to tell us here right now that you are a moral person. i dare you to show us your pride.

Oh my, are you angry jcy2009? Please calm down, I did not mean to hurt your feelings

You think my hours are low?well, yeah for certain activities but not for all of them. If there are some that I think are low, I can always change them.

wowowowow Alejis, I am not lying about being a first generation student. I already put whatever is necessary in those fields. And I am not forging any letters. I have a very nice bond with those teachers as well as the counselor and I actually never got to see the letters. I pray that they are good. On this forum people love to make dangerous assumptions and then give you long lectures. I cant believe they have nothing else to do in life.

To be honest I wouldn’t bother lying, I’m sorry if this comes out as blunt (yes others may blast me as well), but I get a pretty good feeling you’re going to be getting a nice fat rejection letter.

And btw you’re pretty stupid for posting all these things here, I could easily call Columbia and let them know what to watch out for and you’ll be screwed. Since there’s a lot of information about your application here.

Save yourself the time and energy and just don’t apply.

“If you knew my situation you would understand everything perfectly.”
^All I’m getting is “I’m not good enough as myself that I have to lie in my application to even be CONSIDERED for admissions”.

You are NOT Columbia worthy and you will be rejected. I’m sure you’re lacking in so many places and even if you decide to enhance your application…the rest won’t follow through.

People like you disgust me. I’m sure people enhance some parts of their applications, but seriously the whole thing?

You had another question “Columbia Accepting people in SAT 1800-1900 range?”
So you have:
-Low SATs
-FAKE STUFF

Remind me again why you THINK you deserve to be here?

oh well, here comes another insult from CrookedI, but I’m used to it. He gave me an exposure long enough for me to generate immunity to all the sleaze that comes out of his mouth. Shame on you.

“deserve” where do these people even come up with these words I never mentioned. I think the problem is that too many ARROGANT people think they DESERVE things in here and automatically assume that others think the same way. PeterP, did you get ED too, or is there some other reason why you’re being arrogant? I know some in here who sound just like you.

Polsci - it’s fine, you can’t be sure of everything and the application itself is so ambiguous, that it’s hard to be exact. Besides, the essays reflect your passion and meaning in your activities, so that’s where you can express your true feelings.

Everyone else - why so preoccupied about someone’s life? Just move on and deal.

hahaha. It just makes me laugh how similar those questions are to mine. I was grounded for asking them because of “ethical” reasons. Just wondering if anyone will accuse you of same things. Is it just me who nobody trusts or do they just not like me?

I’ve merely pointed out some distasteful actions on your part. If you think that I’m insulting you, perhaps you should reconsider your own actions.

Unlike you, PeterP actually decided to the right thing by telling his friend to not misrepresent her application. Read the link you posted.

On the other hand, you actually came out and straight up admitted that you were planning on lying on the first page of this thread.
Yes, I am planning to LIE about hours and years involved in certain activities. I am planning on exaggerating things. I am planning on being DISHONEST. I have nothing to lose. If you knew my situation you would understand everything perfectly. But you don’t.
You said it yourself, man.

I’m beginning to think that you’re just a ■■■■■. If not, I can’t see how you’re going to get into Columbia. You can fake all the ECs you want, but there’s no way in hell you’re going to be able to fake emotional maturity.

haha. why you dont like when people have fun? I know I wont get in I just like teasing people. I cant believe so many posters took me seriously and this thread is fullllll. Is not there anything else that you might want to do? for me…no…not right now.

I think its time to end this debate. Saying that I am a vice prez of debate team even though it was only in 9th grade will neither win me acceptance, nor cause me to be rejected. It just does not make ANY difference. We should all calm down.

but its still funny to look at what as STIRrrr I caused. LOL
