Do community college credits get transferred to UCs and private universities?

I was thinking about taking community college calculus because I’m not able to fit it into my high school schedule. I’m also not allowed to put the course into my high school transcript because I already have put in the maximum number of outside courses into it. That doesn’t matter to me as much as perhaps getting some college credit for it.

I live in California and am applying to the UCs as well as some pretty selective private universities. Is there a way for me to find out if the credits from the community college course that I take will transfer to those universities? Thank you!

http://www.assist.org will show you course equivalencies for transferring courses from California community colleges to UCs and CSUs.

For other colleges, be sure to keep the syllabus and other course materials for evaluation of transfer credit and advanced placement should you enroll in such a college.

For applying to colleges, you need to self report and/or send transcripts for all courses at all high schools and colleges attended, whether or not your high school includes them on its transcript.

A calculus course suitable for math, physics, and engineering majors will be more applicable to more situations than a calculus course for business majors.

Thank you so much for your help!

The good thing about taking a CC calculus class is that you don’t have to worry about having to retake the class again at the university level (well at least for the UCs).

The credits for CC will all transfer over to a UC. It is possible though that you will have to renounce some of the credits as you get closer to graduation, as you might exceed limits.

Awesome, thank you so much!

Many UCs have exceptions such as not applying the credit unit limits until after 8 semesters or 12 quarters, not counting college credit earned while in high school, not counting transfer credit not used to fulfill subject requirements, etc. for the purpose of the credit unit limits. But check the specific rules for each campus and division.
