We all interpreted it a bit wrong, but DMC, this is not a personal attack. No need for the mean-spiritedness

I am not being mean. I did apologize for what I said initially. However, lawyerdad is accusing me of something he has succumbed to himself.

what does atavistic mean? i looked it up but it made no sense where DMC used it... i'm not trying to pick on anybody, i just like learning words (but if you know me, you'll know i'm not as big a dork as i might be sounding right now, lol...)

what does atavistic mean, from what you looked up taurustorus?

DMC: put down the pipe. You are embarassing yourself with your senseless replies. Nowhere did I seek, as you claim, data concerning students leaving Duke to attend Dartmouth. I specifically asked the precise opposite question. Further, don't blame me for the erroneous inferences you drew. It's poor style and reveals even nastier traits about yourself. I understand if you have no personal knowledge to contribute. That's fine. Have a great time at Duke!

encarta.com

atavistic

at·a·vis·tic [ àttə vístik ]

adjective

relating to genetic reappearance: relating to or displaying the recurrence of a genetic feature that has been absent for several generations

uncivilized and instinctive: relating to or displaying the kind of behavior that seems to be a product of impulses long since suppressed by societys rules

at·a·vis·ti·cal·ly adverb

sorry guys. lol havent we gone down this road before? i meant the 2nd way...uncivilized.

sry for what, DMC? anyway, i only did a quick search on dictionary.com and it didn't have the "uncivilized" definition; that's why i was still confused.

"By the responses thus far it would appear that people tend to transfer into *Dartmouth from Duke, but not v-v. Are people actually surprised by that?"

Lawyerdad, the only person who is actually considering transferring from one of these schools to the other on CC is divagurl, who's trying to transfer from Dartmouth TO DUKE. Where are you getting this statement from? And I agree with FountainSiren...basically nobody understood the point of this thread if none other than to denigrate Duke and say it's not at the "Ivy" level.

Exactly. The man claims I have no references then alludes to a reference with no basis.

I remember in the Brown vs. Green thread how lawyer said Brown kids behave like any normal non Ivy league school. Then, he went on to perpetuate the notion that Brown will leave the ivy league.

"Brown is liberal, like Antioch. I only stated the obvious. If that makes you uncomfortable re-think your options. In my opinion I don't think Brown has any qualms about seceding from the Ivy League, and as soon as it can develop an endowment without Ivy membership nothing will justify Brown remaining a member any longer. What difference does that really make to you? Or are you just another closet elitist, too? In sum, I think the fact that they are both Ivy League institutions is where any comparison between Dartmouth and Brown starts and ends"

So, judging by YOUR last posts, it is YOU sir who are the elitist via Dartmouth. In short, why would you be in favor of Duke with this little tirade when you have proven through countless posts that your allegiance is with Dartmouth. FIrst it was Brown, now you have shifted your gunships towards North Carolina.

DMC, let it go. don't let lawyerdad's posts make you sound less-than-loveable (NOT referring to your last post; just your posts that i've run across lately) because we don't want that! no matter what people say or try to insinuate, Duke is a great school! don't even bother trying to prove it b/c those who can't see that aren't even worth bothering with.

You are right. Taurustorus (how do you spell it right everytime you sign in lol), i like you, and I'm letting it go now. I apologize for what I said. Lawyerdad is right. I have no past experience with transfer statistics nor have I ever been in a college environment. However, what I do know is that Lawyerdad is absolutely correct when he has said that Dartmouth is a fine institution. Don't believe people when they say it is unknown. I wanted to so very badly go here, and I will regret leaving it behind.

However, if you like Duke, go for it too.

it's pretty easy actually (signing in) 'coz they're just two of my favorite words, lol. anyway, i hope you have the greatest time at duke! a lot of my friends are stoked about going there. my blood, however, runs green =) and tho there's a possibility that i have to take a year off b/c of a family situation, i'll be at dartmouth one way or another!

I feel you. I almost frickin' cried when I sent the "no" letter to Darty. Newayz, I wrote them a very impassionate letter about how I was missing out on a great opportunity there and how I hope another child gets to experience Dartmouth in all its glory.

INDIANS FOR LIFE FOO!

DMC: Can you change your decision? We all want you to succeed to your fullest where you feel most comfortable, be it Duke or Dartmouth.

No it is too late. Besides, I might show up at Tuck for grad school. You never know.

You guys are scaring me because it sounds like Dartmouth is WAY more prestigious and cool than Duke. I thought they were tied. insert confused face

Don't have "buyer's remorse." Be happy.

I will be. Lawyerdad started this thread ont he brown forum and it just seems to me like the ivy sports league make any other school inferior to it.

I was under the impression that Duke was more prestigious than some ivys. I suppose I might be incorrect.

Totally subjective. Both great. Doesn't matter. Like sentence fragments.

haha....awesome.

Devil May Cry,

My daughter is going to Dartmouth 09. Most Dartmouth parents and students like to see others choose to attend the school they or their children are going to attend--parents can be even more fanatical than the actual students themselves--and usually are.

I believe it is more or less unseemly for a parent to come on a forum like this and challenge the choices kids have to make when selecting a school: its enough that they debate amongst themselves (there are often subjective factors beyond a pure choice that dictate to some degree what students will in fact choose that remain unknown to their august critics).

Duke is a great school in some ways a better choice than Dartmouth; it depends on who you are, who your parents are and your regional bias.

By next fall, you will be one of the happiest people in North CarolinaIm sure of it
