I'll be going to Dartmouth in the fall. I was there for the 3-day Dimensions program...and it seems like A LOT of people are choosing specifically between Dartmouth and Duke...

Is there some similarity between these two schools or a reason why they get paired up so often?

are you sure it's not sheer coincidence? at dimensions, i bumped into two kids tops who were down to duke and dartmouth (granted, i never actively asked kids where they were thinking of attending; just listened when other people asked). plus, there are at least eight kids from my school who are going to dartmouth next year, and none that i've talked to (and i talk to them all, lol) was choosing btwn duke and dartmouth (top contenders were amherst, brown, and uva 'coz in-state). i mean, i'm sure people do choose btwn duke and dartmouth, but i don't think it's necessarily b/c they're similar (the way amherst/williams vs. dartmouth), but perhaps more b/c the choosers like different things that each school offers. maybe DMC or others can contradict me in this...

er... i wasn't trying to be confrontational. what i meant was, i never had to choose btwn duke and dartmouth so i couldn't see why they were similar, but since you did cut your list to duke and dart maybe you (or others, i did say others) did see similarities and thus might want to contradict my rationale. so let's each take a chill pill 'coz no one's battling anyone and enjoy this friday night. i'm out; been meaning to see sin city w/ a hottie in a while =).

Maybe because they are so similar in prestige and selectivity, many people applied to both. If you're accepted to one, you have a good shot at the other.
