Hello! I was accepted to Tulane today with a Distinguished Scholar Award of $30,000 per year. I have a 34 ACT, 4.0 UW/4.4 W, most rigorous schedule, research internship, leadership, etc. Does not being awarded the Presidential Scholarship have a huge impact on my chances for either the DHS or the Paul Tulane Award? I thought I would be pretty competitive for these, but now I’m not sure, given only getting the second highest merit award. Any thoughts?
I don’t think it has much effect
1, you would have had to apply to DHS/PTA to be in the running. Assuming so, I believe your stats put you in the running but it is fiercely competitive, more so than ever before.
@xcrunner1710 I know DHS and Paul Tulane winners last year who received the Distinguished Scholar (second highest merit aid award) as well as the Presidential Scholarship–I believe most if not all of the recipients were in these two groups, which represent the tippy-top of the accepted applicant pool. The quality of the essays (for Paul Tulane) and creative project about the box (for the DHS) are the determinative factors for who received the award.
I’m in the same boat! Got a Distinguished Scholar Award but I applied to both scholarships and I really hope something comes from it. Tulane is my dream school and I’d give so much to go, but it’s hella expensive lol
I’m nervous! I only got 25k/year, but I think my DHS scholarship submission was excellent. I’m hoping that since I’m a B.Arch applicant, they gave me the smaller amount because it’s renewable for 5 years, so it has the equivalent value of a 30k scholarship over 4 years. Any thoughts?
I believe the results came out last year around Feb 23 so one month from now.
Correction. Tulane apparently sent UPS notifications of PTA scholarship around Feb 18 last year with arrival around the 20th for some, but portal update/email was around Feb 23.
Those scholarships dint stack, so if you get a Paul Tulane or DHS, it replaces the merit scholarships. Merit is stackable with the community service scholarship, but not the top ones.
You can sign up for UPS My Choice which will provide delivery notification in advance via email. Could mean, if lucky enough to be offered an award, that you might know a week before the portal updates, and three or four days prior to package arrival. Some might just prefer to be surprised by the package though.
@anxious18yrold , @xcrunner1710, It looks like some people got an update about their DHS application. Did you get any news?
heard back! I didn’t win either of them, but I was a finalist for PT and was awarded a merit scholarship increase. In DHS, I was just informed that I was not chosen for the DHS, but I know that there’s still the Stamps scholarship. Does anyone know whether or not my rejection for DHS could mean I still have a chance for Stamps, given that I was a finalist in PT?? Thanks!
