In less prestigious schools such as University of Michigan, University of Washington, and so on, do extracurriculars really matter if your GPA and SATs are in the 60th percentile or higher? If so, what type of SAT & GPA would make it not matter? 70%? 80%?

Of course. I know UMich is actually competitive (not sure about the other school). Whatever your GPA and SAT scores are, EC’s play a role. But EC’s don’t generally matter if you’re applying to unknown or “low” schools if you have pretty good scores based on their standards (sorry, can’t explain that better but you probably know what kind of colleges I’m talking about).

The quality and quantity of EC’s does not always matter as far as admissions, but I think it often makes a difference in scholarships.
