Do generic transfer essays work?

Most transfer essay topics are the same: why do you want to transfer to this school?

So I wrote this 500 word essay about my growth as a person,
The only problem is... as I got to the end of the essay, I realized that the college name that I had entered could pretty much be replaced with any college.

As is, my essay looks pretty good as a story about me and why I would want to go to a college but isn't very specific to any college.

Should I change my essay to be more focused on the school(s) I'm transferring to?

It’s also more on the creative/unique side and I’m kinda afraid if I make it specific, it will take away from that element.

If it’s a good essay, then just changing the name of the intended institution won’t matter all that much in the end. Really now, those transfer admissions officers read millions of essays and as long as it’s coherently written, I’m sure they’ll love it.

Some schools ask their Why College X? question in their supplement, in this case a generic main CA essay is fine. If the school doesn’t ask this or doesn’t have a supplement, you can address the school specifically in the main CA essay and make different versions of the CA for different schools. I know that this year the CA has reduced the number of versions you can make, so you’ll have to adapt to that limit.
