Do Graduate Degrees Count As Legacies?

My mother got her MBA at Stanford after her bachelor's from Princeton. I'm really interested in going to Stanford, and I'm in that border zone of possibly making it. What I'm not sure about is if the MBA counts as strongly as a legacy as an undergraduate degree? Will this help me at all?

well your mother still graduated from there. she IS an alumni. so i’m thinking yes, that counts as a legacy.

yeah you should still be considered a legacy. in fact there’s a whole section on the Stanford supplement for that so you definitely want to include it. as far as how much or how little it may help, having a parent who went there for graduate or even undergraduate doesn’t make that much of a difference anymore, especially as admission gets more competitive.

i also have a legacy question. both my grandparents and a stepgrandparent went to stanford undergrad. they have a history of donating. what significance does this have in the application process, if any? thanks!

you can definitely put that down as well. i think there are somewhere around eight to ten spaces where you can put in names of relatives who went to Stanford. my section was completely blank lol. most people would think that the donations from their relatives might impact their decision or aid in the application process, but to be honest, no one really knows how much or how little that does anymore. Stanford actually gets several alumni donations. if it had a large impact on an admission decision, then so many legacies, some of which would not be qualified would get in merely because of these donations. generally speaking, this sort of thing was more popular back then but this is no longer the case today.
