I took my first practice ACT ever yesterday from the Real ACT book. I scored a 34 composite (31 E, 34 M, 36 R, 33 S). How similar is the difficulty in the Real ACT book (I took Practice Test 1) compared to the difficulty of the real ACTs?

I'd say you might score 1 or 2 points lower (composite)
I think Real ACT book is easier.

compared to the real ones, alot easier

yeah, the real ACT book is def easier than the actual test

even though it's probably the best book :(

I got a 34 on my practice too the night before the test.
I got a 36M, 33R, 34E, 32S or something like that. Im not completely sure

And i got a 31 composite overall. But the science was MUCh harder than what i practiced

yea the science has def changed. Its a lot harder than the practice tests. I got a 36 science on one of the practice tests but on the real test I got a 30 and a 25 :(

I don’t know if anybody will agree with me, but I always felt like I had more time on the practice tests (e.g., I always finished the practice reading tests with at least five mintues to spare, unlike on the actual tests which I barely finished). Maybe this is because I tended to stress while taking the actual test, or maybe it’s because the practice tests were easier. Whatever the case, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to deduct five minutes when taking the practice tests.

^agreed about time. you feel more time crunched on the real thing. ..by a lot. haha

i agree. I finish the english 20 minutes early, the math and reading about 5-10 minutes early, and teh science 5 minutes early on practices. On the real test, i finished english about 5-10 minutes early (i forget) and math about 5 minutes early.

On the practice Real ACT tests, I got a 32, 31, 33. I got a 33 composite in Sept. But I agree, the science on the real thing is much much harder (but I thought the English was easier than in the book).

I scored in the 34-35 range on science in the books...got a 30 on the real thing.

I scored in the 26-28 range on English in the books....got a 33 on the real thing.
Go figure.

Math and reading seemed to be basically the same thing though.

do you guys practice off of the real act? Im practicing off of PR Cracking the Act and it seems way easier than Barrons.

^ Uh, that's different...

General consensus:

subtract about 2 composite points from your "Real ACT" book to get a good idea on your actual score.

what I would do, actually, is search the CC forums for a thread in which 3 actual ACT tests are linked. I took one of those tests on the links and it was a pretty good gauge on my grade.

It's a bit tougher
Also, make sure you time yourself. I took a practice test without timing myself and got a 34 (adding maybe 10-15 minutes lol). When I took the test the first time, I got a 27.

My daughter was getting 35-36 on the real ACT practice tests timed. Her last time taking it in June she got a 32. April she got a 31 composite - had great scores in math, english, reading and a 23 - a 23!!!! - in science. June the science was still her lowest score but was much better. Stupid science section.

I got pretty accurate scores on all my practice tests. My reading was a little lower than my practice tests, but i don't care as much because my science shot up to a 34, when usually i get 30's.
