Because I never see any of them on this site. Or at least no one mentions they go to HumEc...and on chance threads everyone's always asking away about CAS and Engineering and CALS...people are fussing over how selective the Architecture program is or whining about how Hotelies don't do anything (not true!). If someone came to this site and read all the threads, they might forget HumEc even exists. I haven't forgotten!

I would love it if someone who goes to HumEc could chance me! or even if you don't, maybe you could chance me anyway? I'd appreciate it. I'm debating whether to apply Fall '09 or wait till Spring '10 (will increase my chances..but I don't want to wait). Any advice?

you can respond on this thread or that one, whatever you like, I would really really appreciate it. thanks.

im in humec, what do you want to know

is human Ec. a common major for kids at Cornell to take for pre-med?

HumEc is one of Cornell's colleges, not a major.

HumEc is not a major, it's a college. There are various majors in the program - for example, I want to study Policy Analysis and Management, which is not a typical pre-med major like the natural sciences...although a lot of premed students are branching out these days. For more info on the majors, take a look at this The College of Human Ecology, Cornell University-Home hope it helps

darren, are you a PAM major? even if you're not...think you could chance me? the thing is, I have a low shot of being accepted, so instead of applying for Fall '09, I was thinking Spring '10 instead, but I want to get out of my current college as quickly as possible. I would really appreciate it.

Oops I meant college. What Majors in HumanEc are geared toward a pre-med? Are there any similiar to maybe a psych major?

the Biology & Society major is a popular choice for pre med.

Eric, these are the majors:
Biology and Society
Design and Environmental Analysis (Facilities, Planning and Management; Human Factors and Ergonomics; Interior Design)
Human Biology, Health and Society
Human Development
Nutritional Sciences
Policy Analysis and Management
Fiber Science and Apparel Design

I guess Biology & Society, Nutritional Sciences, and Human Biology would be good for pre-meds... There are also lots of good options for Pre-meds in CALS and CAS, if you don't like the programs offered in HumEc.

Thanks guys-- I looked into the majors and Bio./Society looked like a good fit. I can't apply to the others because I only took 2 years of language ( I took 2 years of spanish and a semester course at a CC in Latin...but I'm not sure if it's worth to explain that or if it even counts)

Stargazer, I was also astonished at the lack of HumEc CCer's... they all go on and on about Hotel, Engineering, CAS, etc and very rarely mention HumEc.
In my opinion, HumEc is one of the standout colleges at Cornell.
What's with the lack of attention it gets?
I feel that CALS is more hyped.

I think that since CAS, CALS, Engineering are the three biggest colleges that Cornell has (and therefore have the most prospective applicants) that they would be talked of quite a bit. As well, the Hotel School is pretty unique for undergrad programs, so that also explains why it is also so frequently discussed.
I don't think this should really turn into an argument about which of Cornell's colleges make it stand out as a great school.

Whoa, I'm not trying to start an argument about anything, and all of cornell's colleges contribute to the university as a whole...I honestly just created this thread to talk to other Human Ecology students/applicants because there's not a lot of us...

...and more importantly, to get chanced! My chances are low, but I would like to hear some advice as to whether I should wait until Spring '10 to transfer, which would boost my chances, or if I should apply for Fall '09, which I would prefer because I'd love to leave. But if I apply and don't get in, then I'm really screwed.

Yeah I wasn't trying to start one either - just making a preemptive strike on any that might want to arise (and I don't think ChandlerBing was either, I was just commenting on the comment "I feel that CALS is more hyped"). I have/had no intention of fighting with anyone :).

I think you should just go for it for Fall '09. Obviously in the end do what seems more logical to you, but by applying for Spring '10 just for the slight increase in transfer acceptance to sacrifice your happiness (from a shorter wait and less time at your current school) doesn't seem worth it to me. Maybe someone who has more experience in transfers would have a more accurate sort of opinion, but I think you should try it. I doubt the percent transfer acceptance rates are so drastic that it's worth to apply for Spring '10.

stargazerlilies, is it not allowed to apply for fall and then reapply in the spring if you get rejected? I have heard of people applying for transfer multiple times, but never really looked to see if there are any restrictions.

well, technically yes, but...I applied to CAS undecided in HS and got rejected (and now I totally know why...my application sucked and so did my essays) so if I applied for transfer and got rejected...well yeah I guess I could apply again, but that would honestly just be pathetic. Third times a charm? lol it would be bad enough getting rejected twice, imagine 3 times! :) but to anyone who actually applied 3 times and got accepted, more power to you.

thanks bestwhit most likely I will apply for fall '09. not sure though because if I apply for spring, they'll see my whole freshman yr plus half of 1st semester soph yr.
