Okay. So Emerson is my first choice college. I’m hoping to be a WLP major. I applied Early Action. I’ve known from the beginning that Emerson was a longshot but I’ve become more anxious as the decision day grows closer. As far as ECs go, I am WELL compensated. A few things from my resume:
-Written, directed, and starred in three plays (two have won awards on a state level)
-Sunday school teacher
-Captain of the volleyball team
-Founder of my school’s science club
-Student ambassador to France
-Yearbook editor
-National Honor Society
I’m in a few more clubs but I don’t want to take up too much space. I’ve also got a couple demographic advantages. I’m Puerto Rican and I live in South Carolina. I’ve done okay on the ACT. My highest composite score is a 26, but superscored it’s a 27, and I earned a 35 on the English portion.
But here’s the thing. My GPA is, well…it could be better. I have a 3.3 unweighted (3.9 weighted). I’m taking all honors classes and my school is currently going IB. The average GPA of accepted applicants at Emerson is 3.6. I know colleges always accept some students below average, and I’m hoping my resume will help make up for my grades, but the more I research, the more I doubt, especially since my first quarter was nothing to brag about (I had one 81 and then the rest of my grades were between 89 and 92).
Do I stand even the slightest chance? I want to be prepared when I get differed.
