Do i even have a chance?

Hey there,

Thanks to everyone who will dedicate some time to read this thread and even more to those who will answer. I just got my may sat scores, not as good as I expected but got 1660. 550 CR 570M 540WR. I understand that this is a very poor score for engineering. In addition I already graduated from high school in my country last December, and didn’t take the SAT until Now. I served in the army in the national guard of my country for a year and back in High school I was a very good student, my approval rate was above 85% and my class rank was top 10%. My GPA was 6/7 which in the US would be 3.3. My letters of reccomendation make a emphasis on my interest on enginering and my TOELF iBT is 90/120. Having said that all, I am planning to apply to colleges this summer. Which Decent engineering schools are out there that I could get to with no or little difficulties?
One good thing is that I am not requiring financial aid, meaning that my chances are a little higher there.

I am planning to major in Electrical engineering and have considered schools like:

University Of Minnesota-Twin Cities

Texas A&M University

Milwaukee School Of engineering

Rochester Institute of Technology

Arizona State University

Virginia Tech

University Of Michigan At Ann Arbor

Indiana Tech

What do you think; will I get into any of those? And Are these schools strong enough to study engineering there? What do you think of them, are they attractive enough to make such an investment?

Thanks…

These are fine to very good schools. With SAT at 1660, even local students cannot get in. For instance, you would need 2100+ with good GPA for UMich CoE.

The admissions standards vary significantly amongst the schools you listed. Michigan is extremely difficult, even for in-state students.

The web site for Milwaukee School of Engineering (a private school) states that you need a 3.0 average, a minimum ACT of 22, and a minimum math ACT score of 25 to be accepted into their engineering program. They will also accept the SAT, so you don’t need to take the ACT. Your total SAT score is the equivalent of a 24 on the ACT, and your math SAT score is roughly the equivalent of a 25.
