Hi Guys,

I am a senior in high-school and I am graduating this May, 2009.
I have been accepted to a University, and I am planning on enrolling there.
But I am taking this next year off from academics - after I graduate high-school - and am going off to do a year at a Ministry school down in Bethel, California.
So I was wondering if I still need to fill out a FAFSA this year (2009), even though I wont be going to the University until the following fall of 2010.

Thanks!

-Michael

The current FAFSA will not count for subsequent years. A particular FAFSA applies only to that same school year. So the 2009-2010 is only valid for the 2009-2010 school year, not for the 2010-2011 school year. If you complete it now you will still have to redo it for the 2010-2011 school year.

The only reason I could see for doing it now would be to get an idea what sort of aid you might get for next year, though this would change if financial information changes. And I don't know if the school would do an award if they know you are deferring.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know.

What do you mean they wont "do an award", if they knew I was deferring?

I meant they might not want to make a financial aid offer for the 2009-2010 school year if they already know you will not be attending in 2009-2010.

Sounds reasonable.
Okay, thanks!
