I am transfering schools for fall of 2015
The school I am planning on going to is very expensive and if not for financial aid I won’t be able to attend.
Last time I was in school I found out how much financial aid gave me AFTER I was already enrolled in classes.
Luckily FA covered it.
I don’t know if this time that will happen…
Any experts ?
Why not ask the school you are applying to, when they release financial aid information for transfer students?
Are you already accepted?
Did you file FAFSA (and CSS Profile if necessary)?
Not yet . I just obtained my transcript as they asked
Thanks. Didn’t know it was different for every school
Transfers get less money.
What a remarkable (and inaccurate) generalization! Yes, transfer students get less money . . . at some schools, but not at all. Each college sets its own policies regarding financial aid for transfer students, and many are just as generous with transfer students as with freshmen.
@mikespnu should check the net price calculator for the school he’s hoping to attend . . . and also make sure he gets all financial aid forms submitted on time. And, if he still has questions, he should contact the school’s financial aid office - that’s what they’re there for!
Yes, it depends on the school, but the trend is less money, that’s why I brought it up. The OP has stated that he/she needs money for an expensive school. He/she already was surprised once and doesn’t want to be surprised again. This student needs to check with his new school’s financial aid office.
You may want to provide OP with a reference to the schools that are generous with transfer money.
I don’t think transfers get less need based, especially federal, aid. There may be less merit aid, but the OP didn’t ask about merit aid, just about financial aid. Merit aid at the prior school certainly would have been known before enrolling.
Some schools that meet need for freshmen don’t guarantee to meet need for transfers. And merit aid is often not available.
@mikespnu you are waiting too long to file your FAFSA. How can they possibly give you aid before you file your papers. As a continuing student you should have this drill down. You should have all this paperwork in so you can get a timely financial aid package in order to make your decision. U have not heard of students accepting admission before aid packages unless they plan to be full payers. Do you have to file CSS Profile also for this college. Do these things asap.
Thanks yes I agree I should know this by now but unfortunately didn’t care before.
Im purchasing the 2015 FA book we soon
Also I am “transferring” literally but applying as a freshmen due to the low amount of credits I hav .
Will this effect my fa?
Have you contacted your new school to make sure you still qualify as a freshman? If so you should be eligible for all freshman FA and merit.
Just found out their aid was due on March 1st. Is it even worth still filing this late… i know they prioritize the on time guys… ?
@Erinsdad yes! i did
Yes, it’s worth filing . . . unless you’re willing to take a year off school. Just get it done as quickly as you can.
