I am very worried about how much my SAT scores would affect my application. My math and writing sections are 800 and 790 but my reading falls short at 620. Some schools im considering are like boston college and cornell. Boston college’s middle 50 falls in 630-720 while cornelle is 650-740. My reading score falls short in the middle 50 percent for most of the schools im applying to. My gpa is a 96/100 and i have some fairly good ECAs. Will my reading score have a really bad effect on me, to the point where they will look at it and reject me? Thank you.
A 2210 won’t doom you at Cornell, and it’s a plus for your application at BC. If you can raise the CR score with a retake, go for it: a 50-point increase will put your superscore in the 2250+ range where it’s around the admission average for Ivy Leagues. None of this will cause a university to reject you.
The thing is my retakes were all 620 for reading… Yeah sad life for me.
When you mention retakes (plural), do you mean you’ve taken the test 3 times?
If so, a 2210 will be the score colleges see - taking the SAT or ACT 4 times lets them know you’re obsessed with test scores, and isn’t recommended by any person with knowledge of the admissions process - but it’s by no means a bad score. Nobody is admitted because of test scores, and very few people are rejected because of scores around the school’s average. The other components of your application will matter far more - your grades over 4 years and activities over the same time period tell colleges a lot more than 3 hours in a testing center.
Yes i have taken it three times and got the same reading score for all of them. And thank you, I guess i will have to sell myself to colleges with other components of my application
But overall, do you think my chances for schools like bc or cornell (if i actually do apply) are high low medium?
Everyone’s chances are low at Cornell - they reject more than 4/5 of applicants. Don’t know enough to chance you for BC, so I’d rather leave that task to people who do.
