Hi, I’m an international student who’s currently attending a university in Canada.
However, Cornell always has been my dream school and even though I got deferred and rejected from it a year ago I still can’t get it out of my head, so I am applying for transferring.
Were you a “Guaranteed Transfer” (Transfer Option) student?: Np
College applied to (ex. CALS, CAS): Human Ecology
Major: Design and Environmental Analysis
School attended before transferring: University of Toronto (St.George)
College GPA (out of 4.0): 3.795
Courses taken in college: I’m in architecture so the required architecture studio and history courses & calculus (took 9 courses in total)
Any grades below a B?: One B+
High school grades: like 3.5-3.6 in cumulative I guess? I went to Canadian high school from grade 9-10 and graduated in American high school so I’m just counting my junior and senior grades (which is pretty sad because I had a hard time getting used to AP and IB system when I first came to American high school)
Extracurriculars: executive in volunteer club, volunteer in Roots & Shoots (club related to environments), planning for internship and competition this summer
Essays, if any (rate them 1-10, details): Did not write yet
Hooks (URM, first gen): None :((
HS Type: small private
Ethnicity: East Asian (Korean)
Gender: Female
ACT: 31 (planning to retake soon)
AP: World History 4, Environmental Science 4, Calculus AB 5, Chem 5 (and also took IB visual arts with 6)
I feel like there are a lot of troubles. Firstly, It is so hard to find the case of someone who transferred from Canada to the U.S. so I’m really not sure how things will work (guess I should really talk about the admission). Nextly, I am worried that my GPA isn’t high (but U of T if anyone has heard of it, is notorious for giving low GPA. The average in my major was around 2.9). And I know that I don’t even have good extracurricular but I feel like many clubs in my college is pretty inactive. Like I signed my name on many clubs on club fair day at the beginning of the first semester but most of them didn’t really do anything for the whole year. Lastly, my race is East Asian which prestigious colleges have more high standards of (this is just what I feel like. I heard of discriminations with Chinese/Korean/(not sure of Japanese) from a lot of people) so I am very concerned of my chances.
Also is there anyone who tried transferring for spring? Will I still be able to make friends and engage in school easily?
Feedbacks and opinions would be granted.
Thanks!
