Do I have a chance for UTAustin

I want to go to the liberal arts school, i have a gpa of about 2.7, and a SAT score of 1070, I have been working as a volunteer for various committees in my school like Medicin Sans Frontier, International Students Association, and the Student Gov. Association, with a good essay do I even have a bit of a chance?

There is always a chance, but I would say it would be very slim. UT is very competitive and a lot of spots are taken by the top 10% kids. You might want to start out at a regional campus (UT Arlington or something) and move to Austin later.

A girl from my son's high school, who did not graduate in the top third of her class was accepted to UT, but mind you, she is a very talented girl who had taken state honors in UIL sponsored competitions and she probably wrote a killer essay. It can be done, but with your grades and SAT I score, you will need to put a tremendous amount of effort into your application. Go for it, but keep your options open. Good luck!
