do i have a chance in transferring

i am a college freshman at suffolk univ. economics major
high school gpa: 3.7
high school ranking: 21 out of 274
national honors
community leader for 3 years
AP: Biology/Chemistry/ Micro and Macro Economics
current gpa; 3.2 first semester
sat score :average

No. Top LACs take very few transfers and a 3.2 won't put you in the running.

thanks I figured that maybe if my gpa increases but if not where should i consider

Your high school stats are pretty good. I think that if you work hard on your GPA and raise that, you'll have a decent chance at getting in. Other schools you should consider depend on your interests and what you want to study.

I think transferring to Swarthmore will be quite difficult. They take relatively few transfers and your high school and college stats so far aren't very competitive for admission. :( Are you an under-represented minority, by chance?

actually i am black but my mother has a decent salary

jump4me, as an under-represented minority, you probably have a better shot than most with those stats as a transfer. I'm sure you realize that the caliber of work expected at Swarthmore is significantly different than what's expected at Suffolk. It's no knock on Suffolk, but it is the truth.

I know that I am looking for a school that has more rigor most of the class here are not complex and and i love challenges that is why i like swarthmore

jump4me: i can dig the fact that you are looking for something more challenging than what suffolk u. can offer, but isn't there an intermediate step for you? what you're saying is, as an example, lifting 50 lbs of weights is too light and not challenging enough, so let's try lifting 500 lbs next. this place will eat you alive with 3.2 from suffolk u.

Yeah, I'm going to agree that you have almost no shot.

The GPA's of previous transfer students have been almost perfect.

Sorry.
