i took three honors classes freshman year, two sophomore year, two this year and now im in one AP class. i've done 50 hours of community service, and by the end of junior year i'll have done 75 hours. i have at least a 3.4 GPA ( no report card yet but ive never gotten lower) i'm haitian american ( i know being a minority helps lol). i've been in the multicultural club 3 years (i'm public relations now), 2 years on student council, third year of drama club, business club, joining journalism club, i am an ambassador. my AP class is english. if i get great SAT/ACT scores and write a really good essay, do i have a shot? i know its early but i really want to go to that college. they say they want a 3.7 GPA, but im not sure if thats always true?

With only one AP do you really expect to get in anywhere? A bottom-tier school like Boston University might accept substandard students, but even they have a limit.

my school doesn’t offer APs until junior year, and even than they only offer AP english, us history, and science. you can only take an AP science either your junior or senior year, as there is honors/ap physics and honors/ap chem. im taking honors physics this year, and ap physics next year.

My son was accepted at BU with a 3.2 unweighted and 3.6 weighted GPA. his SAT was (I think) 2080. You sound like you are involved in things you’re interested in and have an unusual/interesting background. i think you have good reason to consider applying to Boston University.

That being said, do you need good financial aid? Boston U has a mediocre reputation for financial aid (my son couldn’t afford to go there based on their merit and aid offer). If you need financial aid, concentrate on schools that either offer good merit aid for your stats, or good reputation for meeting need. If money is not a concern, apply to BU but make sure you find some safety schools too!

And don’t pay too much attention to snarky comments - Harvardhopeful2012 was either trying to joke and missed or trying to be discouraging and hit. Either way, put in your application at BU and other schools, and good luck to you!

Thank you so much! That’s very encouraging and I’m really interested in going there, so I will definitely apply when the time comes And yes what he said was very rude, I may not be ivy league material, but I can definitely get in somewhere better than a community college.

just bumping this…
