While I’m sure everyone is probably tired of this, I have exhausted every other option. I just wanna know if I have a change to get into GATech, or if I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but either way I’m gonna apply for Regular Decision this year. I’m applying for computer engineering.
Background:
African-American (born in the US)
Northern Virginia my whole life so I’m OOS
high-average income for the area.
First-Generation, both parents got a degree in Africa then moved here.
Schools:
I started high school at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Tech, a really high up charted magnet school in Virginia, but I eventually had to change back during sophomore year to my base school at Centreville High School, a decent public school in Northern Virginia. Since I changed, I had a low period for a while, and it hit my grades hard until the end of junior year.
Courses:
Listing only AP, dual-enrollment, and senior courses. all other courses are of highest relative caliber in each school (honors for my current one)
Sophomore year:
AP Computer Science A (5)
Junior Year:
AP United States History (4)
Oracle 1 (Dual Enrollment NOVA) (no job certification)
Senior Year:
AP Language and Composition
AP Government
AP Calculus AB
AP Physics C
Computer Systems A+ (Dual Enrollment NOVA)
Advanced Compuer Science AB
GPA:
depends if you take into account senior grades, which was why I waited for regular decision. Because sophomore and junior year was my down period, I loaded up on AP courses for senior year and have around a 4.2 gpa so far.
Junior Year:
3.4/4.0 weighted
Senior Year (predicion)
at least 3.7/4.0 weighted
Tests:
1330/1600 SAT
630 critical reading & writing
700 math
30/36 ACT (cant remember details off my head)
SAT II Math: 800
SAT II Physics: 740
EC’s and others:
Cross country all four years (JV)
Programming leader for school’s FRC Robotics team
at home DIY projects and custom Arduino circuits. Leap Motion development for Python.
co-founded a non-profit organization that repairs donated old and broken computers to provide for low income families and students who cant afford them (locally and international projects)
The last one is my biggest offer, and its reflected in my personal essay for common app. My essays are great, not ground-breaking or outstanding, but It interested every person I asked to review it.
I have two teacher recs, and other miscellaneous items but that’s the main info. I know it going to be at least a very big reach because of my GPA, but I just need to know if the rising competitiveness of applications is even possible for me this year.
Sorry for the long post and any help is really appreciated.
