I have not taken my TOEFL yet (or I have, but the score has already expired; I got a 104 before I came to the US.)

Another question: I’ve noticed that the entry requirements of some schools, for instance - UCL, include CGPA. Does that mean I cannot apply as a high school applicant directly to its undergrad program? Can someone explain this to me?

Thank y’all in advance!

UK students don’t get high school grades. UK universities do make decisions based on teachers’ predictions of A-levels. UK schools generally do not consider high school grades or gpa in admission of US students. They won’t be real interested in the Calculus III either, as it isn’t a standard exam, but that should look good to US schools.

Not sure how being not from the US effects things, and if you are Asian and if that makes it harder to get in like in the US. However, you should meet the score requirements for an Oxbridge interview. Possible to apply to other top schools like LSE or Durham, particularly if you are applying to US schools and don’t need safes so much.

It’s impossible to say because we don’t know what subject you are intending to apply for. Only relevant APs will count, so if you’re applying for arts subjects you have a problem (but hopefully not!). In the UK you have to apply to study a specific “course” and it can be very difficult to change without dropping out and starting again.

I assume you are interested in some science related course. Note if you want to start medicine, vet school or any Oxbridge undergraduate course in October 2017, the application date is 15th October 2016.

Yes, I believe there are some UK courses which will not accept a student directly out of a US high school but require some US college first. 99.9% of the time such things will be explained on the uni website under “international students”.

You can apply to most subjects at UCL with an American high school diploma, provided you have five APs exams, preferably with 5s. I believe vet and med schools do not consider APs sufficient at most british unis. Alternatively (and this is the key word), you can apply after one year at an American uni, including cc.

@sattut First of all, I’m Asian. Also, does that mean I probably only need 1 safety school in the US if I’m applying to both US and UK colleges and I’ve certain that I’ve met one of my UK school’s entry requirements?

Just meeting the minimum requirements isn’t a guarantee of admission. What subject are you applying for?

@Conformist1688 Materials Science and Engineering.
For instance, U Manchester has the following entry requirements:
ACT: 27+
Three AP: All 4+
TOEFL: 95+
GPA: 3.0+
Since I current stats have already surpassed the entry requirements, is it advisable to consider U Manchester as one of my safeties?

Can you afford to pay? That’s the main requirement for international students in the UK. There is almost no meaningful financial aid for international undergraduates and you have to prove that you have the money to cover the costs of the entire course in order to get a student visa. If the answer to this question is yes, I think it is highly likely that you’ll get in to Manchester.

Cupcake’s right that if you can pay international fees you have a good chance, but I’m always reluctant to declare a safety application. Your personal statement and recs will also bring some weight to bear.

It’s hard to say at this point, as you need some more AP exams. The 800 SAT IIs are good. With 5 “relevant” AP exams with scores of 5 and the SAT II scores, I would think you would have a good shot at all of them but Oxford in STEM (math, science, or engineering), and you would meet the requirements for Oxford.

If you are interested in medicine, vet, or dental, you should stay in the US though. It is almost impossible to get into a UK medical program as an international, and there would be hoops to go through to practice in the US if you did.

You’ll definitely get in to Manchester. I doubt Oxford or Imperial. You’ve got a good shot at the other two (UCL isn’t nearly as hard to get in to as a lot of people assume it is). I’d recommend adding Kings to your list.

Actually scratch UCL I didn’t realise they don’t accept a high school diploma as enough to apply.

@versaysea why not Oxford / Imperial? I’m suggesting that I’m capable of doing so; I just want to know what aspect of my application seems week as an Oxford/Imperial applicant (and potential way of increasing my chance  )

@versaysea in addition, I didn’t want to apply to King’s College London b/c they don’t have Materials Science.

I can’t say why @versaysea had doubts about Oxford for you, but Oxford is different than the other UK universities in that for Materials Science you have to also do the Physics Aptitude Test and an interview that is like an oral exam. So, even if you have all of the scores, a good personal statement and a great recommendation, you still have to do well on the PAT to get to interview, and then you have to do well in the interview.

As some of the others have said, for most other UK unis your scores plus a decent PS and rec and the ability to pay will most likely get you in.
