Claremont Mckenna is my top choice, and I plan to ED 1 there–will that help? Here are my other stats too
Objective:
ACT Composite: 35, with 36 on Writing
GPA: 3.97 UW, 4.85 W (both are grades 9-12)
Rank: Most likely top 10%
APs: AP World (4), AP Euro (5), AP Bio (4), AP US History (5), Calc BC (5), AP Lang (5)
Senior Course Load: Calc 3 Honors, AP Psych, AP Macro, Philosophy Honors, Band Honors, AP Chem, Span 5 Honors, Honors Seminar in Writing (it’s an auditioned writing course offered at my school)
Subjective:
Extracurriculars: Bowling-Varsity, Ambassadors (Treasurer), Color Guard (Captain for 3 years), Read to Lead (Day Leader), Business Professionals of America (State Finalist twice), National Honor Society (Secretary), Band (quarter master), Jazz Combo
Volunteering: I’ve worked with a couple non-profits over the years, I regularly volunteer at a Nursing Home and at a Hospital as well. Generally, i get over 100+ hours a year.
I did have an interview with an alumni, and I think it went really well–it lasted longer than scheduled, and he said he would definitely recommend me!
@pikach314 thats an impressive resume. Your extra-curricular look good. Your grades and test scores are very good. Along with your course selection. ED-1 will definitely help. My son attends there. They are big on community service projects. Emphasize that along with your leadership.
As a parent, its an awesome school, that follows through on what they sell. My son is a govt/politics double major and has spent the past two summers, along with the entire spring semester last year in Washington DC doing internships. Usually with Alumni, but the Claremont name carries a lot of weight out there.
Good luck
I am currently a freshman at CMC. Looking at your scores, I would think you have about the best chance of getting in as most any other student. From my reading your stats, I am quite impressed. I imagine the college admissions officers would be as well. I wouldn’t stress out too much. Hope to see you here next fall.
My son is a first year student at CMC this year. Excellent grades, perfect scores, and impressive extracurriculars and awards are great, but that isn’t what gets you in at CMC. They are looking for a very specific kind of person, and they know it when they see it. If you are that person, they will see it and you will get in. If you aren’t that specific kind of person, I think you would be happier at other colleges. So be at peace, and know that your hard work will pay off, and that you will find a home at the college that is a perfect fit for you.
