I'm a rising Junior with a 3.5 GPA, involved in sports(i.e Cross Country, Track), played a musical instrument since I was in 5th grade, and apart of National Art Honors Society. I know my GPA is on the low side but I plain to get serious and ace my last two years of high school. I've taken a few AP and Duel enrollment classes and I'm in mostly honors. I have not taken the SAT yet, but I plan to take it early this October along with the ACT and I'm predicted to do quiet well. Currently I have a job and have an application being processed for volunteering at my local hospital. Also this year I am going to be joining a few clubs including Model UN. Do I have a Shot?? If not suggestions are greatly appreciated!:)

Currently you have a 3.5 GPA. If you get a perfect 4.0 for your next three semesters (your last one is too late for college admissions) your culm GPA goes up to 3.71. A great increase for sure. But likely not to put you in the running for schools such as Dartmouth and its 11% admit rates.

More important than focusing on a group of schools (like the Ivies) is doing what it takes to be a 4.0 student. As you succeed there, re-assess your target schools. Your guid counselor will be able to tell you where kids of similar achievement level have been admitted to. Good luck.
