Do I have a shot at Middlebury

I had good grades freshman and sophomore year, (all As and A+s in the hardest classes at my school), but this year my grades aren't as great. I am taking more APs than any other junior at my school but I unfortunately managed to get B+s in 3 classes. In the other course I took I got As/A+s. I have great extracurriculars and I will have one "good" recommendation and one really really great one. I'm also taking a few more AP courses this summer to get ahead. I'm working on my essays this summer and I would think/hope that they will be pretty good. I am hoping to get my SAT scores up. The first time I took them I got a 2100, but I'll have to wait a few more days for my new scores to come back and see if I improved. I anticipate good, but not great SAT 2 scores.

Do I have a shot? You can be honest. I am worried that my grades have dropped too much junior year which is NOT good, but I'm still wondering if its worth applying and if I have a chance. I'm from Vermont. I'm not sure if this will help or hurt me (or not make any difference).
THANK YOU!

being from vermont (or any other new england state, really) could actually hurt you since there’re already many students from that area, with possibly much higher GPAs or test scores from you. that said, you definitely have a shot as one never knows who gets in and who doesn’t - besides, a couple of B+s on AP courses shouldn’t be tough. try to increase your SAT scores and your first semester senior year grades, and you should be fine.

thanks, thats kind of what i figured. Ill just have to keep my fingers crossed.

(Note: Mid-50% Range: Half the class scored in this range; 25% scored higher, 25% scored lower. SAT 1’s were not required for the Class of 2012 and ranges include all submitted tests, even if a different test type was used for evaluation, e.g SAT II’s or ACT.)

thanks .

Also consider taking the ACT if you have not taken it. I’ll be honest, I spent literally days of my life preparing for the SAT, got a 2120 after taking all my best scores. I took like 2-3 ACT practice tests, got a 34, which definitely helped. I will be attending in the fall.

Right now, you have a decent shot, even being from Vermont. Definitely apply, and consider ED if it is definitely your first choice. Middlebury is also VERY generous with financial aid, so don’t let the sticker price deter you.

thanks… idk how good of a shot ill have though… also, i love the campus and the school, but its only an hour and a half from home, so i don’t know. congrats on getting in tarzan! where are you from?

Don’t discount a school because of proximity. It’s far enough away (and with so many OOS) it’s a thriving weekend campus but close enough that you can go home if you want. Plus, think of all the travel expenses you can potentially save. On a good day, it’s a $400 round trip ticket for us.

Your stats are competitive and impressive. Go for it. Apply, submit a great essay, and show interest as your top choice to adcoms.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it!
