Do I have a shot?

I really love Smith, but I hadn't planned on applying because I was convinced I wouldn't get in. After a lot of encouragement and stories from a close friend who goes there, I've decided last-minute to go ahead and try. So, much as I'm sure you're all sick of these threads, do I have a chance at all? My GPA is around 3.25 unweighted, 4.10 weighted (our weighting system is crazy), class rank is hovering around 25th percentile, and I can't say I had the best seventh semester (mostly B's and two W's after missing two weeks). ACT score of 36, but I can't imagine that'll mean much next to my transcript. Say I have stellar essays and submit a couple poems or something; is Smith completely out of the picture?

Thank you all in advance. :D

I think you lose nothing by applying. The application is free, and you can use the Common App, which I assume you already are doing. To apply for financial aid you need to do the FAFSA and the CSS, which again, you are probably already completing for other schools. So why not just go for it? If you don’t get in, you’ll be no worse off than you are now, and if you do get in, so much the better.

That being said, you’ll need to hurry. The application deadline is January 15 (this coming Sunday). You have a little more time for the financial aid application, which is not due until February 15.
