Do I Have A Shot?

I am from a top Jesuit college prep high school in Missouri
My GPA is about a 3.9 weighted....top 10%
I scored a 32 on my act plus writing
SAT: verbal-650
math-710
writing-700

Classes-I have taken the toughest course load my school has to offer except for math.

APs: Chemistry-5, Biology-5. I also plan to take AP government, AP Lit and writing, and AP spanish (4th year)

ECs: I am very involved in community service and social justice, above and beyond required service including service retreats and clubs.

I am in charge of the tuturing program my school offers. And I have been a tutor in spanish, math, english, and science since sophomore year.

I was class President Freshman and Sophomore year, a rep junior year, and probably a rep senior year. Part of the Spirit club and a key member of the Student Government Association the past 3 years.

I played football freshman year, made the A team. I have played lacrosse every year, varsity sophomore-senior year. Both our lacrosse and football teams are strong state competetors each year. We won state in lacrosse my junior year.

I play lacrosse year round but during the summer i work 40 hrs/week for a technology company that designs and build robotics for pharmacies.

I participated in the annual science knowledge bowl last year, and plan to do so again next year. I did very well.

I plan to retake the SAT this october and should do better, probably around 2100.

What are my chances?

and can anybody tell me anything about engineering at UVA

It's fun! You get a summer reading assignment plus all your classes are basically picked out for you for 1st Semester!

BTW: You should try to get your SAT scores between 2200 or higher =)
Especially since your OOS =o

Engineering at UVA is very good, prob. not as good as Virginia Tech's engineering, but UVA is much better than Tech any day nevertheless.

UVA engineering works more on the theory while VA Tech is more hands-on since they get more funding giving them their higher rank. We still have an all-star faculty. Just work on that SAT.

Is it true that engineering is much more difficult than the other academic disciplines?

Engineering is definitely in the top 3 most difficult. I just don't want to say it's higher than all the rest when there could be that one major I forgot about that makes us look like Club Med.

the short answer to the question in the thread title- yes.

I have heard that engineering doesn't have the grade inflation that the a&S school has.

It doesn't have as much grade inflation but the classes you really need the inflation for are the classes in the college like chemistry and physics. Sadly, the math classes have the infamy of lowering class averages that are "too high."
