is there something about your life that compensates for your grades?

I'd say you have a fairly decent chance as long as you write an awesome personal statement. In fact, write an awesome personal statement and you should be accepted.*

*May differ dramatically if you apply for a major in the College of Engineering.

Guys- every one has a "shot" If you want to increase your odds, make sure your writings reflect why you are different (and an a valuable addition to any mix of people) than all the otehr perfect GPA, perfect test score people.

Having watched kids apply over two years, many who looked the same in stated stats were only differentiated by their statements, unusual life experiencs which made you the person you are today.

Lots of great kids, who look perfect on paper, are turned down for UCB and UCLA every year...I saw kids who could stand out, even with slightly lower stats, be the ones chosen.

Think about what makes you special, what is significant about you and make sure the person reading your essays sees that side of your personality.

Good Luck!
