Do I have a worse chance as a transfer applicant?

I'm wondering if I apply to a school I was denied from as a regular applicant if I will have a better or worse chance getting in as a transfer applicant. Will the college take into consideration how I may have changed/improved, or will they throw my application in the NO pile based on their previous decision?

This depends on how much you’ve changed.

Generally, if you stayed at the same level of performance for any school, you have less of a chance as a transfer. Take BU (my school) for example, freshman admissions was 54%, transfer admissions was 28%.

For us to make a clear cut answer on if you have a shot, you need to provide us with:
-HS performance stats
-Current institution name
-College performance stats
-Where you want to transfer

Some schools will take as high as 80% of transfers, some take 1-4% or sometimes none.

Most schools have lower acceptance rate for transfers than they do for freshmen. However, your college record is weighted more heavily than your high school record. Some schools don’t even require a high school transcript if you are applying for junior standing.

I think what college_ruled says depends, though.

If you are transferring after 1 or 2 semesters, your HS performance usually still outweighs your college performance. The longer you’re in college, the less HS performance matters for transfer applications.
