Do I have any chance of Harvey Mudd (ED), Penn, Cornell, Berkeley

Female, Asian

I attend a public high school.

UW GPA: 3.85
GPA weighted: 4.3
Rank: don’t know

SAT I: 740 + 740 = 1480 (will take one more try, hopefully can make 1520 or better)
SAT II: Math II (780), Physics (710, really bad)

AP: I took only one AP test in 9th grade, and got a 5 because the high school is an IB school.
IB: Math-HL, Physics-HL, Chemistry-HL, English, French, etc. I struggled in the 1st semester in Junior year, got a couple of Bs in the science classes, which drag down my GPA to 3.8. But after I got used to the pace of the IB program, I did better and got straight As.

EC:

  • I taught a visual art class in a weekend school since my sophomore year, it had been about 3 years. I teach 10~20 students in my classes, most of them are elementary school kids. From the feedback of the parents, the kids like my classes.
  • In the school, I am in the science club, math club etc.

Awards:
A couple of silver keys in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards

The schools in my list:

MIT (I know it is super reach, I wanted to apply for the design major. But do I have any chance greater than 0?)
CMU (RD, design school)
Harvey Mudd (ED)
Penn
Cornell
Berkeley
Geogia Tech
Emory

Please chance me.

I’d say you are borderline for your reaches. You have strong but not amazing credentials – GPA and test scores. Your ECs are really light for top schools, too. Go ahead and apply, but you need to add more matches and a true safety or two.

I will say that your app doesn’t shout “Mudder” to me. I wonder why it is your top choice.

Thank you for the suggestion.
Mudd is a small school with strong engineering/science programs. I like the small schools, which give me better focus.
