Do I have any chance?

Do I have any chance at all at Brown?
ACT: 35 Composite (36 E, 36 R, 36 S, 33 M) 9 on Writing
GPA: 4.37 W/3.47 UW. I’m hoping to at least bump UW up to 3.5 or above by the end of the semester.
Class Rank: Top 10%
Classes: My school only offers about 5 APs, one of which I can’t take (I don’t take Spanish, I take Italian, which does not offer AP). I have taken all honors classes all 4 years. APUSH (AP test: 5) AP Physics, AP Calc
-Letters of Rec: From APUSH and Italian Teachers, will probably be very strong due to our strong relationships.

-4-year Varsity Lacrosse player
-Model UN member

-School Ambassador (Selective program where students are chosen to represent the school at different functions

-Artist, all kinds of mediums, took classes at the Art Institute
Common App Essay: I talked about how my design was chosen for a Veteran’s Memorial in my area, culminating in a 600-person attendance for the unveiling and a Congressional Medal of Honor speaker. I talk about how it came about through my desire to use my art to impact the community.

My good family friend is an alum of Brown and has close ties, and could possibly write a supporting letter to a contact in the faculty on my behalf. Not sure that would help, but Brown is my #1. Realistically I believe I have little chance due to my very low unweighted GPA. I know how it can be a total “crapshoot”, but still. What are my actual chances at Brown?

Unweighted GPA is considered within the context of your school. Is your class rank based on that, or weighted? Top 10% is a good place to be.

Letters from alumni generally are not helpful, unless this person has given huge amounts of money to Brown, or their family name is on a building. Faculty have essentially no say in admissions.

It’s a small class, only about 215 people. And my rank is based on my weighted GPA. If I got straight B’s in all honors I would have a 4.0 weighted, and having A’s brings me above that to a 4.37. And the letter would be sent to someone working in Admissions if that makes any difference.

The letter from the alum would be a waste of everyone’s time. Worthless.

Wasn’t aware of that, thank you. Besides that, would I at least have a fighting chance?
