only problem is that i live in NJ but my parents are looking to move to cali asap
please tell me if anyone knows how long you need to live there to be considered an in state app (not for $ but for applying as in state)

any feedback or advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

aww how can it be a reach for him already? i mean i know he's out of state, but he's only a freshman...although other people probably-no definitely know more about the admission process to the UC's than I do, he still has a good shot if he gets all A's and gets a really great SAT score, and really does become really involved w/school. (when i took the sat's in 7th grade, i got less than 1000, but when I took it junior year, I got a 1450, then a 2110. so although i dont think i'll get in to UCLA oos, i'm a senior with less than perfect stats, and wish that when I was a freshman someone would have told me to get better grades and become more involved/more ambitious in highschool, so that senior year I wouldnt have to worry so much about college. ...sorry that was really long...

yes, my parents currently own property in the san diego area, and once i confirm to them that i seriously want to go to school there (state school) we well probably move. My parents are looking to move there anyways, they just need an excuse. also, the reason i mentioned that i was considering moving there was because i didnt want replys that simply just say : out of state becuase that would be the point to moving there!

Nono ChaseD, you're misunderstanding. His point was that all you told us that matters is that you're score so far is 1160 (not high enough, but you'll probably improve by when you take them for real) and that you have not gotten sophomore or junior year grades, so you have no UC GPA. In other words, it is impossible to determine your chances at this point.

My suggestion for a UC is to get a job and do something useful with the money, for example, helping a sick relative or something. They care a lot about your circumstance.

yeh...actually im really not stressfull..just i happened to find this website and realized that ppl actually do post (unsual for most sites) and figured if im gonna post some then might as well get something out of it. since i live in nj..ive grown up around nyc. (anyone who is interested in NYU... new york city gets boring fast!) ive been to california and i love it there especially the san diego area (i want to live there someday) and i know that im not a retard and have the ability to go to a decent college. I know that an 1160 is a low sat score, but thats before i took geometry (im taking it this year) which i recall would have helped me on half of the math questions i left blank lol. i got an 1160 leaving half blank.

*im more interested in advice on getting into these schools, not on whether i had a shot. thats cool they dont count fresh grades

*does anyone know how many years you need to live in CA to apply as instate (they accept much more instate than out of state) because my parents need an excuse to move there! im too lazy to email ucla themselves

exactly! you still have a while, and a B in freshman year won't kill you for sure, and i don't know WHY you're worrying about SATs as a freshman! you'll likely improve
