MY chances of getting into Berkely or UCLA?

Well, I can already see a lot of people are mega smart, but this what I got. I'm Latino from san francisco, I go to a private schoo.

3.85 weighted GPA
SAT I: Haven't taken it yet, but I can probably get around a 1900
SAT II: Haven't taken it yet either, but I can probably score high in Math II, Chemistry, and Spanish
ACT: ...
Extracurriculars: I'm in about 5 clubs, I was an editor on the school newspaper
Sports: Ran X-country and Track
I have some work experience
I've done a lot volunteer work
In the national honor society

Um...so yea that's what I got. So does anybody think I have "a" chance of getting into either UC Berkely or UCLA?

UCB/UCLA: Reach

Yeah that's what I was thinking, anybody else think I can get into Berkely or UCLA? I'm also considering UC San Diego

Your weighted GPA is similar to mine and that's a bit of a reach for Cal/UCLA. I would recommend doing as well as you can on the SATS.

sfboy987:

UCSD: Slight Reach

Reach for UCSD with those test scores, based on class admitted this year.

Are you entering your Junior or senior year this fall?

What grade are you in?

A 3.85 weighted GPA will make it very hard to get into UCLA, Cal (average admitted GPA is almost 4.2), or even UCSD unless you have good test scores.

We can't really predict your chances before all of your tests, but you'll have to aim higher than 1900 on the SAT I.

I'm entering senior year

The good news is you're a match for UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine.

Well, I didn't think UCSD was that hard to get into because I checked out their statistics on their page and noticed they don't ask for extremely high GPA's and scores. I think that was for 2005, so I don't think it has changed that much. They said the average GPA for entering freshman was like 3.95

And I wouldn't mind going to Davis, but that area is so boring.

sfboy987:

UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match

UCSD average gpa is 4.04, UCLA is 4.12. both these schools are reaches. UC Berkeley GPA average is even higher.

Well I looked at the school's website, so I think I can believe them. UCLA and Berkely's average GPA for entering freshmen is 4.25. UC San Diego is not as high, I checked their statistics page and they said it's 3.95. Unless, the school websites are wrong, I'm sticking with what they put.

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/FrSel.htm

http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp

http://studentresearch.ucsd.edu/sriweb/enroll/hsgrades.pdf

UCSD isn't that easy to get accepted as you think of. The school's getting more competitive every year.

"UCLA and Berkely's average GPA for entering freshmen is 4.25"

Dang, that's high

Apply to private colleges where you can get an advantage being hispanic that UCs can't give you.

Okay, Berkeley's like my dream school AND I want major in chemical engineer. Therefore, the UC's would greatly help me in my career because they have excellent engineering programs. Plus, private schools are wayyy too expensive. And I know UCSD is tough to get into, but it's not as hard as Berkeley or UCLA, and I don't think the statistics have changed THAT much in just one year.

UCB/UCLA: Super Reach (Engineering)
UCSD: Reach (Engineering)
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safe Match
