I am a high school senior in Illinois PRAYING to get admitted into the Fall 2015 term at SDSU for kinesiology. I am in a program where I go to a community college full-time that started my Junior year. Therefore, I will be getting my Associates in Science, Associates in Arts, and my high school diploma come graduation. I called SDSU and was directed to apply as a Freshman.
Here are some of my stats as of now:
HS UW GPA: 3.69
College GPA: 3.41, 39 Completed, 75 Attempted.
ACT Composite score: 23

Hi! I have also applied for the Fall 2015 term! I’m currently in Texas and was in the San Diego area two weeks ago checking out the campus. It is perfect! After a bit of research, I discovered they calculate GPA a little differently. On the CSU Mentor website you can calculate that and even see what your “eligibility index” is, this may give you an idea on where you stand according to their standards. If you search SDSU in the “search forum” bar at the top, I’ve started a thread and a couple people have posted some valuable feedback you should check out! Good luck! I hope you get in

Thank You!!!

@jmtm19: Here is the link to CSU Mentor GPA Calculator. Use only 10-11th grades for a-g courses. Since you are OOS, you can only use 4 AP classes for the extra Honors points. CSU’s do not recognize OOS Honors classes for the extra points. Also you need to check the a-g requirements, since the ART requirement trips up many OOS students that apply. <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

Are you full pay at $30K/year? CSU’s give little to no financial aid for OOS students. Being Full Pay will boost your chances.

Here is the calculation for the eligibility index: (CSU GPA x 200) + (ACT composite X10). If you are in the 950+ range, you have a good chance for acceptance. Kinesiology like all majors at SDSU is impacted.
Your GPA looks in range but ACT a little low. Any chance on a retake?
Good Luck. It’s a great school and my younger son is a current Freshman.

Thank you so much. I’m retaking it in two weeks!

Would you mind telling me some of his stats and was he out of state as well?

No, he was in-state. We live 2 hours North of San Diego.
CSU GPA: 3.73
ACT: 31
10 AP and 2 Honors Classes
Eligibility index: 1056
Major: Computer Science

If you check this thread from last year, you can get an idea of the Stats required for admission. You have to sift through all the post to find some OOS students

OOS students are full pay.

What is full pay?

SDSU will not offer you any financial aid, so you will have to pay the $30K/year tuition/room/board. You and your parents will have to take out loans unless you can pay the full amount.

Really? I don’t get any financial aid? I guess I’m relying on scholarships and grants as well.
I’m really confused on how to do the eligibility index; like I previously stated, I have 39 college credits that I took at a community college, and I’m going to be getting at least 30 more by the end of my senior year, so would those be considered AP?

There is a maximum of 4 year long or 8 semesters of AP classes for 10-11th grade, How many college classes that are in the a-g requirements did you take 10-11th grade? If more than 4, then it really doesn’t matter since the max honors points is 8 to calculate your CSU GPA. To me it sounds like your college classes would be considered like AP classes.

I took a whole year’s worth so I believe it is far more than 8 semesters. Thank You!!!
Also, what did your son put for the college preparatory elective courses?

His college prep electives (g) courses were:
AP Psych
AP Microecon
Honors Physical Science

Oh, I took a course in college called College Success Strategies and assumed that was what they were asking about. I even looked online and talked to multiple people and my counselor and they said that would be okay. The class was only a week long, but still helped with college preparation. Do you think that will be okay?
On the application, for example, it asked for 8 semesters of English, but I added 12, which 4 semesters were AP, should I have just put it in the college preparatory section?
Last question, I know he was a resident in California, but did the application want my own high school GPA or to convert it to the CSU GPA?

The week long class would probably go under the non a-g courses. I do not have the application in front of me, so I am unsure regarding the categories other than a-g. Also according to the CSU Mentor instructions, you should use the CSU GPA. It states if you unable to calculate the GPA, to ask your counselor.

There is also a tutorial on the CSU Mentor website to help you with anymore questions. I will be working with my niece tomorrow on her application, so I might be able to better answer your question tomorrow.

Oh my goodness! Do you think that will drastically effect my chances of getting in?
