Currently a Junior in North Carolina with an unweighted gpa of 3.9 and a weighted gpa of 4.65 . ACT score is 28 and 30 if I super score . Plenty of ECs and volunteer work. NHS and will have 3 summers volunteering at the local hospital. I hope to major in nursing. AP courses include APES,APHUG, APBIO, APPSY, APSTAT. I plan to apply to UNC-CH, ECU, and UNC-Wilmington and perhaps Clemson and South Carolina OOS this August.
#ITBgirl, if all goes well I think I may wind up having the same decision that your DD was faced with which is whether to attend UNC-CH or ECU in the honors program. Based on my stats do you think I would have a good shot at getting into the honors program at ECU and would I be eligible to receive any merit awards? Thanks
@singbld all good choices for nursing in NC and SC. All those schools super score the ACT except USC so you can consider yourself a 30. I think your stats look good for HC at ECU.
As for the merit awards, HC is full tuition, and my daughter also received additional scholarships as an intended nursing student.
For us it came down to the perks of the HC at ECU, the scholarship money, and ECU offered my daughter a guaranteed spot in grad school for nursing when she is ready. But they are all great schools. I would start visiting now and start to see what feels right for you.
Thank you @ITBgirl ! Yes, I will be visiting the ECU nursing school and the Honors college in June and have already visited UNC -CH as well as UNC Wilmington.
Daughter was accepted to UNC-CH and also into the HC at ECU. We did not receive full tuition though, we received the Centennial which is $2500 per year. Still deciding but my daughter is leaning towards UNC-CH, we plan to re-visit ECU and perhaps attend a nursing class before she decides.
My daughter is facing the same decision, she is a Chancellors Fellow in HC. My husband and I both went to UNC but I want her to chose. At UNC she would have approximately a 30k loan and at ECU she would not have any. She is undecided about a major most likely political science but nothing in medicine.
@rphx2nc I think comparing UNC to ECU is comparing apples to oranges. I have a freshman at ECU and a Junior at UNC. My son was in the political program at UNC but now he is a CS major. Of course the money factor is a big thing. my personal opinion is UNC is the better school for non medical careers. Good luck as that is a tough decision.
