Do I have to approach the word limit on an essay?

I was supposed to write a 500 word essay, but I finished at 410 words. I feel like I’ll be adding ‘fat’ if I try to extend it. Is this going to be problematic?

No, just write enough to get your point across. Don’t add superfluous fluff just for word limit

Sit on it for a few days, then go back. Not with the intention of making the word limit, but to ensure that there’s not something you want to add to enrich your essay.

If you’re still happy with it, stop writing.

Just saw on a live FB event with Pitt admissions director that being well under the limit is just fine.

No.
