Do I have to buy a meal plan?

The college I will be going to emailed with me with the various fees and it included purchasing a meal plan. Do We have to buy a meal plan? I'd much rather just buy packs of noodles because its just another needless expense in my view. Do you think buying meal plans is a good idea?

Are you in a dorm or apartment? While meal plans can be very pricey, sometimes it’s worth it for the socialization actor of being able to eat with friends.

For some schools, buying a meal plan is required for all freshmen. If you live on-campus, I would suggest buying one so you can have an easier time getting foods and perhaps socialize with some classmates or friends.

You’re probably right. It’s just when you’re travelling from another country, you have to be conscious of having enough to live on.

Sometimes schools, like mine, require that freshmen or even students there for their first semester, must have a meal plan… so you should look into it.
Personally, I’ve stuck with our meal plan because it’s convenient. I don’t have a lot of time to cook when I have classes so close together… plus there’s a large variety of choices. For me it’s worth it, but it just depends on your expenses and viewpoints.

At mine, it is a requirement if you live in the dorms.

At my school I’m almost positive it is required if you live in the dorms. I would say get one. Yes they are pricey but it isn’t healthy to live off of just noodles and it’s very hard to cook in most dorms. Plus you will miss out on going to eat with your friends which really sucks.

Human is right about our school except for a very few upperclassman dorms.

Really it varies from school to school so you’ll have to ask. I was quite glad to be done with the overpriced plans.

Thanks guys. I will get it. It’s just when you have to pay for visas, accomodation, insurance, tuition etc you don’t think too much about a meal plan. Thanks :)

Well as I suppose buying a meal plan is a good idea…You have many expenses also than why to worry about meal…Let’s have it

Coming over from Ireland, it would be the lowest concern on my list, but it would probably save money in the long run too. I assume a student isn’t obligated to use the meal plan everyday though?

Xavier, no you will not be required to use it everyday. But use it as much as you can, don’t want to waste any of your money!
