Meal Plans: Yea or Nay?

I vote nay.

As much as the food at my school sucks, I don't know what I would do without it for the conveinence. I don't have a car, or a full kitchen. It's great to be able to go in and eat without the shopping, cooking, dishes, etc. Also, my school is so small that I can walk anywhere on campus in about 5 minutes. There is always something edible--bring on the cereal. [yay, sory of]

Yea...the food at my school rocks.

That is amazing. At Wake the food is so-so, but we are under the control of ARAMARK. Wake is their oldest account and we still get treated like garbage... delays in construction, price gouging, you name it. We all know they're trying to phillips screwdrive us over by switching from a la carte to a mandatory meal plan. I'm mostly against the plan because I really get sick of the food quick (Subway and Chick-fil-a, some fajitas every once in a while) so I just go to a grocery store and eat of campus as much as I can. I feel meal plans trap you in, you can't let your dollar do the talking, and you just have to accept the food.

yea....Cornell food ownz.

It's good to have a meal plan, but I think they should only be mandatory for freshmen. I like the meal plans that my school offers, though. Unlimited, 24 a week, 14 a week, 10 a week, 75 a semester, 45 a semester. The 45 a semester plan is excellent for upperclassmen because you aren't committed to a large number of meals but you can stop in the dining hall every once in a while.

at WM, meal plans are mandatory for freshman, either unlimited, or 19/week first semester, 2nd semester they allow 14/week. After that, they do not require you to be on a meal plan. I was on unlimited 1st semester, and it was definitely a waste. I'm pulling back to 19 next semester. They also come with "flex dollars" which you can spend at dining halls and other food places around campus.

Yeah. Freshman meal plans are required at UofC as well. Although it's very pricey, the food is pretty good (lots of variety so you won't get sick of the food too quickly!) and we also get "flex dollars" which we can use at Subway and other restaurants and coffee shops on campus and at "Bart Mart" - we can buy almost anything we might need...from toilet paper to food.
