Im currently attending a community college and have a 4.0 w about 42 units and 18 units in progress. Primarily, I'm applying to UCs this semester but would like to try Columbia or UPenn.. any idea?

From what I've heard, SAT's aren't a HUGE factor in transfer admissions..that being said, usually submitting a low SAT would not help your case, but I think a borderline SAT (which is what you have) wouldn't hurt you (if they require it).

It depends on one thing: your major. Which school of Columbia or UPenn or UC are you applying to? SAT's matter when reviewers of your application are comparing you with students with the same stats as you. It's essentially a factor that can break a deadlock between a few students they want to admit.

I called UPenn and asked that question. Your 2010 SATs are pretty good. Let's say you retake and score... 2150. The Ivies will understand that you have experience with the test and have become smarter over the last year. In short, it won't really help you, unless you can score amazingly good, which would imply to the admissions counselors that you've slacked off in HS.

I have another question if you guys don't mind answering
I looked at the UPenn website today and realized that they have a prereq course
(intermediate econ) that I don't think my CC offers. What should I?
Intermediate econ sounds like an upper division course, and I don't think it'll be offered at any CC..

i will have taken or in the process of taking macro and micro econ by the time i apply this march but there is no such course as intermediate econ at school. i did call the school and they dont seem to be flexible regarding matters like this. The rep just said i need to somehow take that course

Getting into Penn's Wharton is extremely tough as a transfer. Entering as a transfer when everyone else has been there for a year or two only works if coming from a similar school or you took great pains to take the necessary, advanced courses you would need to hit the ground running. When I was at Wharton I knew a couple from Stern and MIT.

Your best shot is to enter one of the good programs that starts junior year such as Haas at Berkeley and Ross at Michigan.

And OP, yes, I would retake the SAT. My daughter transfered into an ivy as a junior and retook her tests looking for 750 per section to be competitive for the school she wanted.
