So I’m hoping to get accepted into a competitive school and I know most of them make you send all of your sat scores. But wiith the new SAT, is there a chance that I can be allowed to send just all of my new, after march 2016 SAT scores? My old SAT scores really sucked. Like a 2180 and 2060… Also, about the new SAT and the ACT–should I do the essay? As a sophomore, I haven’t learned how to write those kinds of essays yet, but i want to get the SAT and ACT over with this year. So should i take the SAT/ACT without the essay this year, or learn how to do it by myself and still take it this year, or wait until next year? Thanks!
You don’t have to send it. But if your superscore is above 2200 don’t retake. My highest individual is 2180 and my superscore is 2230. I’m applying to the ivies.
As to taking writing with future tests, that is up to you but there are a number of colleges that will continue requiring writing even for the new SAT test and for the ACT and taking one without writing means your test could be of no value for admission to such colleges. Thus, unless you are specifically eliminating all such colleges from your list, you should consider taking it.
As to being required to submit all SATs, you are incorrect in believing that “most competitive schools” require you to send all of your SAT scores. There are actually only 21 colleges that do so and only 13 if you count the UC’s as one. Only three of the ivies, Yale, Penn, and Cornell, have any kind of all scores rule. Be aware that to date, each of those all scores colleges that has issued a directive relating to the new SAT test has said it will continue to require all SAT scores, both old and new tests, if you provide any SAT.
