Do I have to take TOEFL or IELTS?

It says under check list for freshman application that

English Proficiency: If English is not your native language- regardless of your citizenship-you must provide the university with verification of your proficiency in English. All applicants should have an official report of their scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the appropriate application deadline. Please note that while TOEFL or IELTS scores are required to satisfy proficiency in English, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will conduct a full file review considering all application materials submitted in application package to make a determination about the student's level of English proficiency

English is not my native language (I'm Asian) but I've been here (US) for like 10 years..so do I NEED to take the TOEFL test? Is there any other alternative way to verify?

Thanks,

If you have an SAT, you should be fine.

oh, so my CR/WR scores will do? Thanks Euroazn :)

I would still check with someone more authoritative; however, I know of a relatively recent Chinese immigrant that applied to UMD (and got the Banneker key) who just took the SAT; no TOEFL… so I’m assuming there’s no req.
