Hey guys, I'm a high school senior starting his college application process, and I could use some advice. I'm applying to various schools which include competitive med programs and even a few ivies. I'm a pretty good all around students which made getting rec letters so hard for me. In the end I got 3 teacher letters plus my required guidance counselor letter. I have had 3 counselors in 4 years of high school, with my newest one coming in just this past August. Not wanting a generic letter I decided to go with an extra teacher, my chamber choir teacher, who has known me since Kindergarten. My other two teachers are my AP chemistry, who is chairperson of the science department, and my AP Lang and Comp teacher who also knows me extremely well. Most of my extracurriculars, awards and leadership positions have something to do with music so this extra letter would definitely show a different side of me. Do you think that these FOUR letters would be overkill and hurt my chances? I would love any advice.

theres no problem with HAVING 4. sending 4 might be a problem tho. I would pick the two/three<<(maybe) and send those.

You only have 1 extra teacher LOR which is not excessive given your GC situation. As long as a school doesn’t explicitly say NO supplemental LORs, you are fine.
