Just started packing and I was wondering, do I need to pack any dress shirts and ties? When would I really need to wear them if I do?

You may need them for fraternity events if you join a frat or if you go to any job fairs.

Ummm hellloooo football games?? Haha
“Guys in ties girls in pearls”
But even if you end up just wearing orange, you may need something formal for a dorm event or dance or something so as long as you bring one nice outfit you should be fine.
I worked my first year so I needed lots of dressy clothes for that (teaching).

Yeah I don’t plan to be part of the “guys in ties girls in pearls,” blechh. Football games are not meant for that. But thanks i guess ill have like 2 or 3 outfits ready

I think that everyone should try both ways (orange, dressy). You don’t know if you won’t like it if you don’t try it! Football is different at UVA.

(I say this coming from Philadelphia football where you are cold if you are not wearing 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweatshirts and a coat.) And I love dressing up for games now, I won’t do it any other way! You really feel part of the current student body – it is mostly the older non-student folk who wear orange.

Pack it just in case, things come up that need formalwear. If you’re an engineering student, you ABSOLUTELY need nice clothes (shirt&tie if male) for presentations in your first-year intro engineering class.

I say bring two dress shirts and a tie. Make your parents buy you a UVa tie too Why two shirts? I guarantee you’ll wear one to a football game or out or something and then come Monday morning you forgot you needed one for a presentation. Designate one shirt for formal only things and keep it ironed and in plastic wrap. Bring another one (or a few, many dudes bring more shirts than they bring underwear) for games, going out, etc

Yes, you need a few formal outfits. People do dress up at this school, and I’m glad they do! Just got back yesterday and it’s so good to be back with a little time to spare before starting classes.

Powder how did you get to move in to GM on the 16th?

I didn’t move in on the 16th ??? I have an existing apt. there from last year, with a roommate and we didn’t change a single thing. So, if you already have a place and there are no changes, then it is no big deal. Hey, and I love it at the Grand Marc, if you are new to it, welcome!!

What about the guy that where’s the orange suite and tie. I don’t really know what to say but I definitly respect that ingenuity. Also I’m going to the BVI’s for the next to weeks so don’t expect any strange new posts. Also some word of wisdom, keep studying for the ACT! We’ve got around 25 days till the test. If your feeling down about your test score here is a pump up song:

Hmmm can’t get the link to work… Cmon iPhone don’t fail me now.

Nope it is my second year here. I like it too but I didn’t stay in the same apt.

Sorry for high jacking the thread, I posted in the wrong place

Vistany,
Ah, that was the issue>>changing apartments. I’ve had the same roommate since First Year and we are happy in our apt. and didn’t want any headaches that we could potentially avoid. Maybe I’ll see you around the pool someday
I’m so glad to be back :)

it seems like half of UVa CC-ers live at gmarc haha ;)

At one point the CCers all lived in Brown - we’d go to our computer lab and all be on CC. It was hilarious. Now we only have 2 computers in our lab because ITC took them all away (Brown bought 2). Times have changed!!
