hi, I have the following average scores on practice tests...

Math: 650
Reading: 620
Writing: 630

Now, do you guys think books would help me at this point?

I always thought that rocketreview or Grubers only really help people in the 500-600 range... and barrons only helps 700+ people. Anything between is really just practice deficiency.

I can't really afford to buy more books.. Do you guys think that i REALLY could use books like RR or Grubers?

Hmm. I had similar scores about two months ago.

I bought two books: The Barron's book (not Barron's 2400) and the Blue Book. I really, really like the Barron's book. It's steadily boosting my score, and I now have no trouble scoring in the early 700s on every section, and I'm not even halfway through the book. It is more difficult than the real thing, but this level of difficulty isn't so extreme that it becomes useless.

The Barron's 2400 book is said to target the hardest questions that appear on the SAT, questions you have to answer if you want that 2400. However, I heard that the critical reading section of the book sometimes forces you to "abandon all logic" for the sake of finding an answer. This difficulty seems exaggerated, and once you get the hang of the CR section, you find that everything on it is logical. Also, the math questions are so extremely difficult that they rarely, if ever, appear on the actual SAT. In the case that they do, you will be able to solve them with the skills you could acquire from the Barron's book.

The Barron's book is more difficult, as I've said before, but this difficulty is challenging and intellectually stimulating to the point where you get great practice for the SAT. Unlike with the Barron's 2400 book, this practice is pertinent to the actual exam.

I feel like I'm rambling, and I probably am, but I'm a strong advocate of the Barron's book.

Books will definitely help.
I took the SAT when it was still only out of 1600, and I'm sure that using Barrons raised my score significantly. Go for it! It's only 12 bucks or so on amazon, so it can't hurt.

i already have the Barron's how to prepare for the SAT 23rd edition book. I never used it. Should i read the whole thing? Use the strategies? Or just jump to the practice tests?

by the way, i have about a month left before the october SAT. What should i do in Barrons in this month? Read it and do the tests? Or as i stated earlier, just take the tests? Remember, 1 month.

Strange... I thought October 4th was a year away... ;)

That sentence there, my friend, could cost you a few points. Redundancy is to be corrected on the SAT, and there is no need to use both the date and the time left. :)

I suggest you read strategies, do the practice tests, and improve your vocabulary and reading skills.

any other tips? I greatly appreciate Uttaresh and waldorfwannabe.
