Do I need to retake SAT Subject Math II? (I got 800...)

Today, I checked the full score report of Math II test that I took in January. I was just curious to see which percentile my score got into. However, after I checked my percentile, I totally freaked out. It was 81%… which means that at least 19% of test takers got the perfect scores. Is it still going to be a reliable test score for college admission?

Forget the percentiles. The students taking subject tests such as Math 2, physics, and Chinese are very self-selecting. Generally only those who know they will score well take them, and as a result, scoring an 800 is already in the 80th percentile.

Any score above 750, in any subject, is a great score. Don’t overthink it.

Now, this beats all. I’ve seen people freaking over a 730 or a 750 or even a 790, but seriously? 800? Only on CC…

You’re fine. Chill.

What good would it do you to take it again? Percentiles are always like that on the Math II, it would be the same the next time… What it does mean is that a fair number of people score 800 on it. But don’t worry about it. I assume you need at least one more subject test, spend your time worrying about that. (note: don’t take one in a foreign language where you are a native speaker or it is spoken in your home, that is considered a cop-out).

You can’t go any higher than that. Why would retaking it make your percentile better?

@intparent‌ Thank you for an insightful advice! I guess I would rather focus on other SAT subject tests from now on.
@albert69‌ Your comment is funny haha Well… since I didn’t even practice a lot for this test, I thought it was not a big deal to just take it again and get 800 with a better percentile. But, according to all the comments up there, I am assured that this is good enough.
Thanks for all the comments! I appreciate it guys

One of my kids managed an 800 in Math II and an 800 in Lit. Her admissions went very well… I think colleges found it impressive that she could get 800s in two very different areas. A fair number of students show up with multiple 800s, but they are often lumped (math/science, for example). If you have academic strength in a different area, consider whether you should do your second test in that. But only if you think you can do well in it.

How can someone smart enough to score an 800 math 2 ask a question like this?

@Ghentsphenze‌ Haha Sorry Sometimes I am just too obsessed with perfectionism… I really gotta fix it lol

I think the answer is obvious: retake

Retake. Who knows, you might get an 820 this time.

I think we’ve exhausted this topic. Closing.
