I'm applying to mostly small, competitive LACs and a few big universities. I have will have taken french, history, science, english, and math courses for all four years of high school along with multiple rigorous drama courses. Most of my classes are challenging AP and honors classes. I have a very high GPA as well. My only weak link is math-- I can get an A in an easier math course, but it's not at all my strong suit. I really, really want to avoid taking PreCalc my senior year to avoid even more stress...instead I am taking a much easier course (Trigonometry/Statistics). Will this seriously hurt my chances despite my other challenging classes??

To be competitive, you should take precalc. A lot of colleges will require you to take calc and you don’t want to be behind.

@guineagirl96 No college will require you to take a course in high school if that’s what you are saying. That’s absurd. If you are speaking about in college, then that’s different. Most colleges implement a system in which you take an exam to see which math you will be placed in.

You should, however, challenge yourself. PreCalc features a lot of Trig concepts.

No, they’ll require you to take calc in college is what I meant.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I don’t think that any of the colleges that I’m applying to will require calculus. I also do not plan on majoring in math or science.
