do i really need some awards?

i want to go ivy league or any great schools. do i really need some awards for my extracurricular activity?????? if i really need some.what competition can i do?how can i join some competition? (but definitely not sports @_@)

Awards distinguish you from your peers, thus making your application stand out and in turn, increasing your chances for being accepted.

To add on...
But if you don't have national/international awards, that doesn't mean you are automatically rejected.

I was thinking the same thing.

Although this sounds lazy, I haven't actually had many opportunities to get awards. There's always the "student of the year" award for each grade, which I've won. I've gotten a gold certificate in this random international maths challenge test that we had to take (although something like the top 5% get it, so it's nothing great), but nothing much other than that.

Are there things that I can apply to, as an international student, where there is the opportunity for me to win awards? Where I live, there's not much around where I live that provides those kind of opportunities :/

90% of awards, like 90% of extracurriculars, are bogus and will not help you much

I don't have any awards (erm, that I'm remembering right now), and I got into Bryn Mawr.... not Ivy League or anything, but still good. You'll probably be okay if the rest of your application stands out in some way.

i didn't have any significant awards, and i got into top colleges (like Stanford)

if you can't get get any "major" awards, it's ok! just make sure the rest of your application is very strong.

don't think of your college application as a check list. it's not "this and you'll get in; that and you'll get in." haha, have something quirky, something cool, something that'll get you noticed as a person, rather than just another applicant.

I didn't have too many awards (a few Model UN ones and some state-level ones -- nothing overly significant). Dartmouth '12.

You did Model UN, Taggart? Awesome! I do, too. I'm aiming for Dartmouth '13! How many gavels did you collect by the end of your career? And what high school did you go to?
