Do i stand a chance at stanford university

Hey there, I am from Georgia. I come from a low income background. I am really worried if I should apply to stanford university. I am an African American male and I have a 4.6 weighted, 4.0 unweighted, and a 1410 sat test. I took the sat 4 times and I might try one more time but I dont think I can get it up any higher. I have taken 10 ap classes(by the end of senior year). I know that my essays would have to be really good for me to stand a chance. I am planning to apply early action(November 1st) deadline. I have 10 extra curriculars, and I am captain of my cross country team, president of NHS and medical club, and I am an officer for peer leadership/stuco. My question is do you think I should apply and would I stand a chance. I feel like my SAT score holds me back.

Of course you stand a chance – you’re African-American. Obviously if you were white you’d have 0 chance, but because of affirmative action your chances are actually pretty good.

The 25th percentile SAT score for Stanford is 1390. This probably means that to get into Stanford with a SAT score of 1390 you need to be either a great athlete, or legacy, or URM. Of course you are one of these, and your SAT is better than 1390.

Your GPA is great, and strongly suggests that you can handle the academic workload at Stanford. Maintaining an unweighted 4.0 with ten AP classes is impressive. To me your ECs look good, but I am not very good at evaluating ECs.

For domestic students, Stanford is need blind for admissions and meets full need . As such being low income will not hurt you at all. In fact, Stanford’s huge endowment is to your advantage – it means that if you are admitted then they can easily afford to support your education for four years.

I definitely think that you should apply. However, it is definitely not a safety as I am sure that you know.

Let us know if you get in (assuming that they keep this thread open long enough).

I was admitted REA!

Congrats!!
