Hello fellow CCers,
I'm currently in a distraught situation here. I'm going to try to make this brief and short as much as possible:

I'm currently failing most of my classes right now due to my illness (depression). My GPA has been so low, that I am completely shocked myself. I've decided to take the step to repeat the grade as I am so worried about college admissions in the future.

BTW, I am currently in 10th grade and my GPA is below a 2.0.
The good thing is that my GPA in 9th grade was a 3.3

And here's the other problem will they still accept me so late in the year? I'm not looking for schools like Andover, Exeter, or Deerfield. I'm just looking for plain simple schools that the average applicant can get into.

I am targeting for schools like Lake Forest Academy.

Another thing is affordability. My parents seem to not pay for more than $35,000. Since I'm an international of course I'm going to be boarder in the school I go to. I need about an additional $10000-$15000 just for the costs of living there. So I was wondering will they be generous enough to give me a financial aid offer of around $10-$15K from all these problems? Also I believe that due to many of my problems that I am facing I can convince them.

There are quite a few schools with rolling admissions, get in contact with them as quickly as possible. Getting financial aid (as an int.) this late will probably be the biggest issue, but you might as well try.

I actually live near Lake Forest Academy and took my SSAT there. If you are talking about having them accept you for the upcoming school year, the chances are slim especially since you’ll need some sort of financial aid. Most schools have already decided where their financial aid is going. I would recommend calling the schools to see where they are with enrollment and see if they are a rolling admission school. If not you could always apply as a repeat next year and have a better chance of acceptance and receiving financial aid.

Consider talking with two sorts of people.

First, somebody who will listen to you about your life and the feelings that you’re having. You might seek a professional, but maybe a kind, attentive person will be just as helpful. Try to get back to your normal life this year and let go of worrying about college.

Second, if your parents understand and agree that boarding in the USA is desirable, your family might consider talking with an educational consultant (for a fee, no doubt) about the schools that could meet your needs. I doubt that there are many on CC who can give you expert guidance in this matter because there are so many “hidden” schools (at least to the majority on this forum) across the nation. You could research this yourself and email schools, that’s true, but you might save time and get closer to your goal with an insider’s knowledge. Whichever paths you choose, people are pulling for your best interests, and you will make the best of whatever you have to work with. (Who knows, you might end up repeating at home and will be just fine. Nobody has a crystal ball about how the future will turn out and too much worrying is counterproductive.) Your initiative in posting is a step in the right direction and shows that you can take action in the here and now. Good luck, yes!
