Do I still have to take the placement test for this?

I'm planning on taking Korean non-heritage 1A this year as a incoming frosh.
But I was wondering if I still had to take the "placement test" for Korean?

I mean Korean non-heritage 1A is like the most basic class for Korean. I wouldn't have to test into that, would I?

Thanks.
I tried visiting their website, but it didn't say anything about having to 'test' into a beginning class.

an nyoung ha seh yo! (hello in korean ^^) all foreign languages need testing. even if its the most basic, because they dont want people who know the language already taking the easier classes. i wanted to take korean for fall also but i missed the placement test TT

if you missed the test, you cant take the class.

either way, hold off foreign languages till like 2nd or 3rd year, focus on core stuff for now. im learning all my korean from kdramas and kpop for now and its getting decent haha

Choco, are you native korean?

I don’t know if you would have to take a placement test if all you want is the most basic class… it wouldn’t make sense to take the test then, right?

You are exempt from this test if you answer “NO” to all the following background questions below. However, you still must go to the Testing Center, 3040 Anteater Instruction and Research Building, to fill out the No Background form to be exempt from the placement test. The oral interview however, is still required for authorization. So again, complete a Student Language Background Survey (SLBS) and meet with a Korean faculty for an oral interview to receive your authorization code for the class. Times and locations are indicated in the Schedule of Classes under Korean in the School of Humanities. Note: You will not be able to enroll in a Korean course without an authorization code.

Background Questions:

Does anyone in your family speak any Korean?

Have you taken any Korean classes at schools or been tutored?

Have you lived in Korean more than one year?

Can you read or write Korean?
