There is no forum for Portland State University so I just asked it here.

I have not taken the SAT or ACT, and have also not applied for any colleges yet.

Are you still in HS? Do you have access to a HS guidance counselor? Your questions are all over the place. You can take ACT or SAT anytime. You don’t need to take both. Either will do. Every single college you’re targeting HAS ITS OWN WEBSITE which tells you which tests it requires.

YOU need to find the deadlines. YOU need to find out the document requirements. YOU need to arrange with your HS how to send your transcripts to your target colleges. YOU need to find out about costs/financing/loans etc.

Read more. Post fewer simple questions.

Are you a senior???

Yes.

There are only so many ways you can answer the same question.

Ok something messed up, and I don’t know how to dejected posts.

I mean delete

Cartman take your tests asap and go see your guidance counselor tomorrow. Most school deadlines are right around the corner and you need the process explained to you. Take the next test for either act or sat. Study for it really well if you can. [A Student Site for ACT Test Takers | ACT Student](http://Www.actstudent.org) gives dates for act. Go to the admissions page for a school you are interested in. Look at their deadlines. Investigate this stuff it is all on the web. We are assuming you are a senior in high school. If you are a junior you have more time.

I am in an alternative school and am planning on getting the rest of my credits (7 credits) by May. All work is on an online program.

So you can literally work at your own speed.

So many colleges have what they call priority deadlines as early as November (now) for next fall admission. So if you know where you are interested check their admission website for deadlines. For your alternative school you will need to have your transcript sent with or soon after your application. Also your act and sat score needs to be sent directly to the college.

You will want to take a test act or sat as soon as you can. You can take the test multiple times but the college will have deadlines for that too. You can take the test multiple times to try and improve your score.

When you are on your college choice’s websitebthey usually give info like the average act of students admitted and such. This will be helpful in letting you compare your test score with those who have gotten admitted.

Do you have access to a guidance counselor or not really.

Cartman I think it is good you are asking questions. That is how you will get your answers! Are you interested in Portland state university?

Heck ya Momom77

And University of Washington, and (private costs more but I didn’t realize they were private when I first looked at them, but I’ve read you should try for public and private because you might get lucky and get good aid and/or scholarships) New York University, University of Denver, Boston University

I have a counselor.

^^ Then you need to speak with your counselor ASAP.

If you need financial aid, there are better options than NYU and BU, as neither has the endowment to afford to give much financial aid. See: [Kiplinger’s Best Values in Private Colleges-Kiplinger](http://www.kiplinger.com/tool/college/T014-S001-kiplinger-s-best-values-in-private-colleges/)

I have talked to her, I am so stressed it seems like college is just not affordable! And that applies for MANY Americans. Someone said college overseas could be cheaper but I am not willing to go overseas long term.

Look at through the links on this thread to find the most affordable colleges: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1576243-good-universities-better-tuition-fee-out-state-students.html

There are lots of colleges out there.
Westminster Mesa (Arizona) is in a big city and there are scholarships.
BYU in Utah is likely to be less expensive, too, and it’d fit with your non wanting to be around people who drink or get drunk.
There’s a Westminster in Utah, too, by the way. You could check both out!

University of Portland, University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University could be more affordable than Portland State, as would SOU (Southern Oregon University). Willamette is in the state capital.

Boston University and NYU are not likely to be affordable, but in/around Boston there are LOTS of colleges. Type “Boston” and “universities” in your search engine, you’ll find lots of possibilities.

Check out Hamline, St Thomas, and UMN for colleges in another big city with good transportation.

Carroll College in the capital of Montana (granted, it’s Montana, but it’s a large city).

You can find ways to make college affordable. Private out of state colleges may turn out cheaper than public out of state colleges, especially the colleges I cited above.

Go to each website and run the Net Price Calculators.

Register tomorrow for the ACT or the SAT (or both), register for “question of the day” on the website.
Prepare very well using number2.com (a computerized system to help you work on tests).
You will need to register tomorrow and take the test in December if you want to apply to college for Fall 2014. Many colleges you named or that were cited above have deadlines in February at the latest.

I only have until tomorrow to have a chance of going in Fall 2014?!?!?!?!
